BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4 of the #fivedayblackandwhitechallenge
A former Mujahideen Soldier poses for a portrait at a Bazaar in Bagram.

A bit of a story about this pic. This man pictured tried to get my attention from the other side of the road, i asked my fixer what the issue was & all he wanted a photo taken of him, so i happily obliged.

We spoke (through my fixer) & i found out he fought for the Mujahideen against the Russians & stepped on a land mine. We spoke a bit more about apples & cricket of all things. I asked him if he was going to be around the bazaar for long & told him to hang around cause i want to get the photo printed & hand it to him. An hour later i got the print but couldn’t find the man….

One of my photos in the April issue of National Geographic Traveller magazine (UK)

Every month i go through my Royalty statements to see where my work goes, how its used & in what countries its used. Turns out i had a photo used in National Geographic Traveller  magazine (UK) April edition.

This particular photo taken in Sri Lanka, is of a group of women at sweet/general shop in one of the many little alleyways of the inner Colombo suburb of Pettah. I have placed a tear-sheet of the article below.

While killing some time i walked into a bookshop (yes, they still exist) & came across the usual Lonely planet collection of books & noticed the ‘Best in travel 2013’ book. I knew my work was used in some of the marketing material during the release of the book but didnt think they would use any in the print but they did.
They choose to go with one of my images from the Nawam Maha Perahera in Colombo outside the Gangaramaya Temple near the picturesque Beira Lake.

So there you go, killing time proved to be useful for once.
